Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are unbundled family law services?
A: Unbundled services (also called limited scope retainers) mean you only hire me for the specific help you need, instead of paying for full representation. For example, I can draft or review your agreement, prepare court documents, or coach you for a hearing — but you remain in control of your case and represent yourself in court if needed.

Q: Can you represent me in court?
A: No. My focus is on helping you resolve family matters outside of court. I provide drafting, reviewing, coaching, and legal guidance, but I do not appear in court on your behalf. If you need court representation, I can help you prepare and then recommend next steps.

Q: What types of agreements do you draft?
A: I assist with separation agreements, cohabitation agreements, and prenuptial agreements. These agreements set out clear financial and parenting terms so you can avoid uncertainty and potential disputes later on.

Q: Do both parties need their own lawyer?
A: Yes. For most family property agreements in Alberta, each person must receive independent legal advice for the agreement to be binding. I can act for you, but your former partner or spouse will need their own lawyer to review and sign off.

Q: Do we have to meet in person?
A: Nope. Consults, drafting, and revisions all happen over Zoom, phone, and secure e-mail. Sign from wherever you have Wi-Fi and a coffee.

Q: Can my partner use you too?
A: No. Each party must have their own independent legal advice for the agreement to hold up. I act for one side only and can recommend other lawyers for your partner.

Q: What types of agreements do you handle?
A: Prenuptial, marriage, cohabitation, and separation agreements covering property, parenting, and support.

Q: How does online booking work?
A: Simply click "Request a Strategy Consultation," choose your preferred time, pay the $100 consultation fee, and complete the intake form. Everything is handled automatically.

Q: Is online payment secure?
A: Yes, all payments are processed through Stripe or Clio's secure payment system, the same technology used by law firms across Canada.

Q: What happens after I book?
A: You'll receive a confirmation email, intake form, and appointment reminders. I'll review your intake form before our meeting to maximize our consultation time.
